There are fun places to go and people to see in store for members of Club 62+ affiliated with Pratt Community College.
For a good time join Club 62+, a programming event group affiliated with Pratt Community College for area senior citizens. Day trips to casinos, the state fair, comedy clubs and talking tombstones are scheduled for this year, with something special planned every month.
Pratt Community College administrative assistant Susan Mayberry, who organizes outings for the Club 62+ participants said she enjoyed getting out and listening to ideas and meeting people, making it easy to come up with new ideas of places to go and things to see for the group.
"I just really want to get the word out that we welcome all participants. This is a free service, there is no membership needed," she said. "We just like to go out and have some fun."
The toughest part of organizing Club 62+ events was coordinating bus usage with the needs of PCC athletic teams, but it's a task Mayberry and group members are willing to work out.
"We can take 40 people on the tour bus and it's so nice to go out to the casino or wherever and have a nice stress-free ride to get back," she said.
Last week, 25 people took advantage of the Club 62+ trip to the state fair. More than 39 have already signed up for an October 6 trip to the Boot Hill Casino in Dodge City. Reservations for that trip are required by October 1.
Other future plans include the Dillon Lecture Series on Tuesday, November 7 in Hutchinson where participants will here Shawn Johnson, Olympic gold medalist and winner of television's season 8 of Dancing With the Stars. A trip to Prairie Pines Dinner Theater in Maize is planned for Wednesday, December 6, and the bus will travel to the Kansas Star Casino in Mulvane next spring.
"I like to try to stay within two hours driving distance," Mayberry said. "It's amazing all the day trips that are available that I am learning about. It's going to be a fun year."
There are meal costs per event for participants, but membership in the club is free and provides several local advantages. Cardholders are entitled to a 10 percent discount on meals at the Pratt Community College cafeteria, one-half price admission to all college athletic events, tuition scholarships for all college classes, and free admission to college cultural events for which students receive free admission.
Those with membership questions can reach Mayberry at 620-450-2184 or stop by and see her at Pratt Community College in the administration office. Good times await.
