The Lady Mavericks got sizable early lead on Satanta and defeated them 81-41 in their Friday, Feb. 3 home game.

Kiowa County scored 23 points to Satanta's eight in the first quarter. Alisyn Davis scored six points with three twos. Tierra West had two twos. Janessa Zenger had a three. Alex McVey, Ashlin Oberle, Sierra Lingafelter, Brecken VandenHoek and Madalyn Owens each scored a two.

In the second quarter, McVey scored three twos. Zenger scored a three and two. VandenHoek scored two twos and a free throw. Lingafelter and Oberle each scored a two.

The Lady Mavericks were ahead with a halftime score of 45-24.

Kiowa County had its highest scoring eight minutes in the third quarter, scoring 25 points. It was the lowest scoring quarter for Satanta, only putting seven points on the board.

VandenHoek scored six points with a three, a two and a free throw. Zenger scored five points with a three and a two. Casey Erickson, Owens, Oberle, McVey and Alexas Cecil each scored a two.

The Lady Mavericks scored 11 points in the fourth quarter. Satanta scored 10. Kellie Rhodes scored a two. Cecil scored two twos and a free throw. Sabrina Thomas scored two twos.

"The girls seem to be hitting a stride right now as a team," Coach Thomas Derstein said. "We're starting to play up to the fast pace that I want and I think they're starting to understand how hard they are to beat if they play at that speed.

"There's no way I can single one girl out because they all did good things."

Derstein talked about the games the girls had coming up against Minneola and Hodgeman County – teams they played in their first two games in the league tournament.

"If we play well enough to win both games this week, it sets up a great showdown next Friday (Feb. 17) against South Gray at home."
