  • Hey guys,Thanks for your comments and messages this week!I still can't believe I won an Emmy! Everyone's been asking me, "How does it feel?" It feels pretty awesome! I can't lie! When I won, I was very much present and in the moment. I remember everything on stage. It was afterward when I was walking around and holding the trophy in my hand that I thought it would disappear. I felt like I was floating and it was all a dream and I didn't really win. It was such a special night. The other choreographers - I idolize them. It was so much fun putting that performance together and doing it. We got along so well. It was an honor to be nominated, an honor to perform and an honor to just be there.I was thinking about it and this was more than just winning an Emmy. This was the first time the choreography award was presented on the main show and we got to do a big performance to showcase everyone's talents. We got to represent choreography in front of the TV industry and for a national audience, and that's really special. I saw some photos afterward of our Dancing with the Starssection in the audience and to see them so happy and cheering for me was amazing and incredibly moving. This was a win for our show. Tom won the host award last year, but Dancing has never won the reality show award or the choreography award. So You Think You Can Dance usually won them - deservedly so - so it felt awesome to represent the show. After the ceremony, I went to the Governor's Ball to get the plaque put on the trophy. It's pretty cool. They already have your name engraved, but you get to watch them put it on the trophy. Then we went to the HBO party and then the AMC party, and all the Breaking Bad people were there. Aaron Paul and his wife - we became friends over the past couple of weeks, so we were hanging out and then I saw Dean Norris just dancing his heart out on the floor. Normally when I got out, I don't dance, but at when I went to Madonna's Oscar party last year, I was like, "Whatever, I'm going to dance my ass off." So when I saw Dean, I was like, "Hey, let's do this." And he was totally into it and it just turned into this bromance dance-off. Dean's sister was a fan of the show so she was going crazy. There was a moment when "We Are the Champions" came on and Dean took my Emmy and started fist-pumping with it. I know there are lots of pictures out there from the party, but they don't do it justice! It was so much fun. And Dean was throwing down moves! He can dance. It was Breakdancing Bad!I think they partied all night, but I cut it short. I got to bed at a reasonable hour. I didn't want to drop my guard or let Amber down. I thought our jive went well. The judges pointed out her footwork and I think it was because of her flat shoes. Flat shoes aren't as flattering as pointed shoes. The jive's also a hard dance and she wasn't feeling that confident about it, but she did a great job and we're happy with our score. For the record, I haven't gotten a boob concussion! This week we have the Charleston. Amber's getting it. We've got a little dance hip-hop in our routine because the music kind of calls for it. Personally, I think there's enough Charleston content, but you never know what the judges will say! For the sake of saying something, they might say something about there not being enough, but I think there is. I've always prepared for that. I'm never really surprised by what they say.I was bummed to see Keyshawn leave. It's always hard to be the first one to go, but maybe on some level it was a relief for him because he was flying back and forth between the show and ESPN, and that was really hard. I thought the show went well. I wasn't really sure what to expect with 12 dances and an elimination in two hours. I thought we might go over, but we didn't. It was weird though because normally it would take, like, 20 minutes for three couples to be called safe, and this was like boom-boom-boom and here are the three in jeopardy. I liked it. It's definitely better from our end because we all hate waiting sometimes 50 minutes to find out our fates on the results shows. Now we know right away. The elimination sucks, but I think it also makes for a complete show. You get the performances and you get a result at the end. Thanks for reading!Derek
