The Kiowa County Lady Mavericks won a close game on Friday against league rivals the Minneola Wildcats 31-30 on the back of a stellar 13-point performance from #23 Halie Headrick.
The Mavericks eked out a tough win at home on Friday in large part to Headrick’s trio of 3-pointers. Headrick also shot .360 from the field with 13 points, a pair of rebounds and a pair of steals. Headrick didn’t top her 3-point season high, a 5-for-10 performance against Ellinwood on Dec. 8, but was the difference maker in the win.
The Mavericks only won one quarter, a 4-11 third, tying 4-4 in the second quarter and loosing the first and fourth quarters 14-10 and 8-6 respectively.
Katelynn Gamble had an 8-point game making 6-of-7 form the free-throw line and Riann Heft had a 5-point game with a pair of rebounds and a pair of steals.
Heather Melton struggle offensively, but had a decent defensive performance, adding 7 rebounds and four steals to her season totals.
The Lady Mavericks (4-4) will face the Central Plains Oilers (7-1) on Tues. Jan. 8 and will return to Kiowa County on Friday to face the Kinsley Coyotes (2-6) in their homecoming match.
