Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Caywood announce the engagement of their daughter Janis Jeanne to John Floyd Carson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Carson. All are of Mullinville.

Miss Caywood and her fiancée are attending Kansas State Teacher’s College at Emporia.

Pre-Christmas dinner at Aldrich home

Mr. and Mrs. H.M. Aldrich entertained at a pre-Christmas dinner Sunday, in honor of their children and their families. Mr. and Mrs. H.M. (Brick) Aldrich and family of Salina, Mr. and Mrs. Dwayne Greene of Beverly, Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Kesterson and Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Aldrich and family of Pratt, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Aldrich and family of Emporia, Mrs. Lawrence Aldrich and children of Mullinville, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Fisher and family of Sterling were unable to be here.

Cheerful Homemakers have gift exchange

The Cheerful Homemakers H.D.U. met Dec 13. at the Scout House with Mrs. Bonnie Fellers as hostess, with several other members helping as they were the losers in the contest.

Linda Coy played the piano and Shirley Lampkin and Joan Miller sang several Christmas songs.

Mrs. Mabel Hammer and Mrs. W.H. Ruth gave a shirt Christmas play.

Mrs. Eloise Towle gave a demonstration “cutting up an uncooked turkey.”

Fourteen members enjoyed the gift exchange.

The Bon Tres Club hears Christmas Story

The Bon Tres Club met Friday Dec. 15 at the C.S. Sloan home with Mrs. Sloan as hostess.

The president, Mrs. Clarence Ralstin opened the meeting with all present repeating the club collect. A free will offering was taken for “CARE.”

A Chirstmas Story “Miracle in Texas” was given by Mrs. Lowell Herrick. A playlet entitled “Neighbors,” the characters Mrs. B.W. McFadden, Mrs. Clyde Caywood, Mrs. Norval Ralstin, Mrs. C.H. Ralstin and Mrs. George L. Ralstin was timely and much enjoyed by all. Sixteen members and the following guests were present: Mrs. Clair McElwain, Mrs. Edith Alford and Mrs. Curtis Hargadine.

Rev. and Mrs. Weston Cox Lynette and David and Mr. and Mrs. Eldon Cox, Kevin and Kim enjoyed a pre-Christmas dinner Saturday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Sheldon Cox of Wichita.

Mr. and Mrs. Howard Cooke, Ponea City, Okla., Mr. and Mrs. Paul Rinkel and Mr. and Mrs. Joe Kendall Jr., Gerri and Kelly, all of Englewood, Colo., were dinner guests Christmas Day of Mrs. Ella Cooke.

Afternoon callers were Mr. and Mrs. Dick Barstow, Beverly andf Janet and Mr. and Mrs. Don Raymond, Greensburg.

Mr. and Mrs. Henry Clark and Joyce entertained with a family dinner Monday. Guests were Mr. and Mrs. Leroy Brightup, Kansas City, Mr. and Mrs. Dillon Wooten, Ann Norris and Mr. and Mrs. Gary Worden and family.

Kindergarten

We made the decorations for our Christmas tree.

Mrs. Ralph Brown, Alan Brown and Debbie Fisher visited school on Tuesday. The Mullinville Kindergarten class wishes everyone a very Merry Christmas and a happy New Year!

We wrote our letters to Santa last week.

Byron Miller, Student of the Week

For student of the week the National Honor Society has chosen Byron Miller for his outstanding accomplishments in scholarship. Byron qualified for the Bahmerfield Scholarship finals, which is one of the greatest honors a Kansas student can earn. Last week Byron went to the University of Kansas to take the final examination. It consisted of a rigorous aptitude test and extensive interview with the Scholarship Committee and Placement Bureau. There are no results yet, but we are certain Byron did well and wish him the best of luck.

Honorable mention is awarded to Jim Clark and Jerry Heidrich who, along with Byron Miller, qualified for a took the Washburn University scholarship tests in Topeka. To them we also wish the best of luck.

What Christmas Means to me

A friend asked me to tell you

What Chirstmas means to me.

It means many things, not just the turkey,

the tinsel of the tree.

It means the singing of the carols

By the young and by the old

And the stories of the Christchild

And the lessons that are told.

It means all of those fond memories

When I was just a lad

Exchanging gifts with sisters and brothers

And a loving Mother and Dad

It means that Sunday School Teacher

Like and Angel, how she could fix

A truth in the mind of us little folks

While at the age of five or six.

It means to turn from the seasons rush

And away from it’s mad gift

For the real true Christmas Spirit

We should take time to cultivate,

It means the joy of giving

And all the fun to share

As we gather around the Chirstmas tree

With all our family there

But it’s not the high priced gift

That I get from friends and brothers

But all of those unselfish little things

That I might do for others

Christmas means that the Star of Hope

Hovers over every land

And to us it means the joy we get

By lending a helping hand

It means that “Peace on Earth”

Cannot in this world shine

Unless “Goodwill to men” is born

First in your heart and mine

Christmas means, if I’ll not forget

When the hours of that day start

That my best gift is not under the tree

But what is in my heart
