The city council offered their unanimous consent of Mayor Bob Dixson’s appointment of Haley Kern to filled the unexpired term of former councilman Rex Butler during their regular session on Monday evening.
After serving multiple terms, Butler abruptly resigned from his position as a member of the city council on Dec. 3.
During regular session on Dec. 17 Dixson made a point of encouraging any interested persons to contact either him or City Administrator Ed Truelove.
The mayor later said he received three letters of interest.
“Haley has been heavily involved in the community,” said Dixson on Tuesday, “ She’s young and energetic and she wants to see Greensburg grow. She’s a good choice.”
Since moving to Greensburg in 2006 Kern has served on a number of committees and in community organizations.
She was a member of the “Can Do Action Team” following the May 2007 tornado, she’s been a member of the Kiowa County K-State Extension executive board, she’s served on the board of the Sunshine and Rainbows daycare, The Big Well Planning Committee and she’s served on the Greensburg Tourism board for about the past three years.
“I saw this as another opportunity to get involved and served the community,” said Kern on Tuesday.
