The 9-0 St. John Lady Tigers, now third ranked in Class 1A (Div I) after moving up two places in the ranks, exploed in the first and third quarters playing the host Ellinwood Eagles Tuesday, building up a 51-16 lead going into the fourth quarter and notched up another easy win 54-24.

Right from the start, it looked like it was going to be a long night for the Lady Eagles - and it was.
With the Lady Tigers defense in full mode and an offense scoring underneath and on top, St. John quickly put up some numbers while holding the Eagles scoreless. When St. John's one-sided lead kept building, the Eagles went to their full court press hoping to slow the Tigers momentum. It did some, but not much.
The Eagles had a hard time covering St. John's Teresa Christie inside. She was able to get into position for the feed even though closely guarded, then maneuvered in for several power layups. Her teammates Jamie Waters and Jessica Hanson helped the effort by each canning a three-pointer. Tara Christie nailed a two midway along the left baseline.
Ellinwood did put a few points on the board, but not until late.
Going into the second quarter leading 21-4, St. John's scoring slowed down some while Ellinwood's more than tripled, St. John leading going into the half 33-14.
Waters made two layups while St. John's defense foced six Ellinwood turnovers - 14 in all for the half.
Playing more like the first quarter, the Tigers allowed just two Ellinwood points while increasing St. John's lead to 35, the score after three 51-16.
Alexis Witt and Morgan Osborne each chalked up five points for the quarter while Teresa Christie got her 15th point.
In the fourth quarter, the Hanson girls - Brandi and Jessica sank three free throws, two by Brandi and one by Jessica - the final score with St. John getting the win 54-24.
For the game, the Tigers shot 48 percent of their field goals with Teresa Christie making 7-10 and Alexis Witt going perfect, shooting 3-3.
