  • Kiowa County Commissioners District 3
    Ron Freeman (Incumbent)
  • What experience or qualifications will you bring to this office? “I’ve been a county commissioner for almost four years now. I managed the co-op for about 30 years. I managed people and budgets and dealt with customers. I guess I also picked up quite a bit of common sense after dealing with people for so long.”
  • What makes you the better candidate for this position? “I’ve spent a lot of time working as a commissioner. I’ve never missed a meeting in the past four years and I don’t plan on missing one in the next four if I am re-elected.”
  • What will be your top priorities after taking office, should you be elected? “I think we’re going to continue to improve road and bridge. They’re going to need some more improvements that have been needed for quite a while. I’d like to do that without raising taxes. [If property values go down] I hope to not raise taxes. I’d like to think that we should pay-as-we go.”
  •
    Earl Liggett (Challenger)
  • What experience or qualifications will you bring to this office? “I have eight years of conservatism. My record is well documented. If I get into office I’m going to spend money like I’m Scrooge.”
  • What makes you the better candidate for this position? “My conservative record is probably, not just better than Ron Freeman’s, but all of the other candidates. I voted against all of this lavish and extravagant spending that’s taken place here in Greensburg. That isn’t the case with some others.”
  • What will be your top priorities after taking office, should you be elected? “My number one concern will be the budget. We need to stop spending money we don’t have. We need to pay off this debt as quickly as possible. I want to go to a zero budget. A zero budget is when each department comes in fresh every year. I’m sick of this thing were they come in asking for $20,000 and the commissioners give them $10,000, when that’s what they wanted to begin with. I’ll look an unencumbered funds and if there is money left over, then they should get less the next year.”
