The Greensburg Recreation 3rd/4th Grade Warriors completed their season as League Champions, finishing 6-0-1. The Warriors had wins over Minneola, Bucklin, Kinsley, Ashland (Forfiet) Medicine Lodge, and South Barber.
The Greensburg Recreation 3rd/4th Grade Warriors completed their season as League Champions, finishing 6-0-1. The Warriors had wins over Minneola, Bucklin, Kinsley, Ashland (Forfiet) Medicine Lodge, and South Barber.
In their final game the Warriors played to a 20-20 tie with Hodgeman County. Greensburg was down early after Hodgeman County scored on the first play of the game. Greensburg fought back to tie the score at 6-6 going into halftime.
Each team managed only one touchdown and 2-point conversion in the second half making the score 14-14 and sending the game into overtime.
The Warriors scored first in overtime, but failed at the 2-point conversion.
Hodgeman County was able to score on 4th down in their overtime opportunity. The game came down to a 2-point conversion. If Hodgeman County was successful their would be a three way tie for the league championship. However, the Warriors took a stand, stopping Hodgeman County and securing sole possession of the League Championship.
"These boys fought hard and even though this game ended in a tie these boys get to take home a championship,” said Coach Chad Pore. “Every team wants to be champions and this year our team was successful in reaching this goal. I have never seen more heart from a group of 3rd and 4th grade boys. They deserve this championship and it feels great."
