John Eldon Fleener, 83, son of Weaver L. and Emily (Beck) Fleener was born November 18, 1928 in his parents' home in Greensburg, Kansas, and died September 6, 2012 in Kiowa County Memorial Hospital, Greensburg.
John Eldon Fleener, 83, son of Weaver L. and Emily (Beck) Fleener was born November 18, 1928 in his parents' home in Greensburg, Kansas, and died September 6, 2012 in Kiowa County Memorial Hospital, Greensburg. John graduated from Greensburg High School in 1946, from Kansas State University, January 1951, and St. Louis College of Mortuary Science in June 1955. He served in the U.S. Air Force, entering active duty in 1952 for two years. On September 4, 1954, he married Barbara Jean Cotton. After St. Louis they made their home in Greensburg. John was a third generation Funeral Director and Furniture Retailer. He served his community through the United Methodist Church, School Board, Chamber of Commerce, Masonic Lodge and the Kiowa County Health Foundation. He was a member of the Kansas and National Funeral Directors Associations. He was preceded in death by his parents, Barbara's parents Noah and Lula Cotton, sister and brother-in-law Margaret and Glen Riley, and sister Neva Jean Spare. Survivors include wife Barbara, two sons J.Wynn and wife Amy Fleener, and Wylan L. Fleener, brother Paul Fleener and wife Shirley, brother-in-law Richard Spare and wife Maxine, six Grandchildren, Shanna Ray and husband Frog, Tori Fleener, Taylor Fleener, Alexsis Fleener, Harrison John Fleener, and Jaden Fleener, two Great-granddaughters Charlee and Frankee Ray, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral services and celebration of John's life will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, September 12, 2012, in the First United Methodist Church, Greensburg with Pastor Terry Mayhew officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Greensburg. A visitation was held Noon to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at Fleener Funeral Home, with the family greeting friends from 5:00-7:00.
