This year National Volunteer Week is April 15 - 21. In recognition the hospital department managers host a carry-in meal and join us to fellowship and listen to the speaker. There were 10 managers present, including GPHA VP, Mike Frost. Enjoying this meal were 11 members then another member came to hear our presenter. Merlin McFarland, RPh, lives in Kingman and is a Pharmacy consultant as well as a pharmacy business owner. At the time he was House Minority Leader, Dennis McKinney was approached to discuss the rebuilding of a pharmacy. One option was to have the pharmacy in the hospital. On February 1, 2012 the Open House was a grand and successful event. Mr. McFarland stated that all commercial and Part D insurance plans are accepted and to visit with him or his staff regarding comparative pricing to other pharmacies.
After the speaker, President, Carolyn Irvin, opened the regular meeting with the reading of the minutes of the previous meeting. There was one correction. Treasurer, Roberta Seiler, announced the balance of the account. Also, Carolyn showed the group the current issue of the Sunflower Auxiliarn newsletter that includes the article from KCMHA. The Kiowa County Health Fair is Saturday, April 21st and the auxiliary will have a booth so stop by and see if you would like to be a member of our organization and put you name in the drawing for a $25 Dillon's debit card. A reminder: scholarship applications, including a typed letter of need and two typed letters of recommendation, are due no later than 5 p.m. Friday, April 20th and applications remain available. Thank you to the auxilians who prepared food and delivered the flowers to both of the clinics to recognized National Doctor Day.
The first half of the year is quite busy and we are getting ready to complete and turn in our Award of Excellence application at the District 6 meeting on May 15th in Larned. May 6 - 12 is National Hospital Week and on Wednesday, May 9th the KCMHA will host our annual Employee Appreciation Tea. Several members indicated they would bring deserts and punch. We will try to have two serve times to include those coming to work for the next shift or if staff in a department cannot all come at one time. May is Legislative Month and we our tentative speaker is Rep. Kyle Hoffman, yet, we know the legislature may still be in session so we have asked him to have a substitute. Also, at the May meeting, we will announce the scholarship recipient. Ongoing reminders: bring your hand book, RSVP for meal by the preceding Monday of meeting, and write down all volunteer hours in the notebook. With no other issues to discuss, meeting adjourned.
Carolyn Irvin, President
