CJ editorials recently published impassioned pleas for the expansion of Medicaid. Such can be accomplished in a “heartbeat” by reciprocal legislative acceptance of the proposed Value Them Both amendment to the Kansas constitution in the August primary.

Expansion of Medicaid will enhance and improve the health and lives of many Kansas citizens. Likewise, acceptance of the Value Them Both amendment will protect, enhance and improve the lives of unborn Kansas citizens who previously had their life denied without due process of law. The proposed amendment still permits exceptions for rape, incest and life of the mother issues. Medical care will not be denied to the mother; why should medical care be denied to her unborn children?

Why can't the impassioned pleas for Medicaid expansion also include the compassionate allowance for medical aid and acknowledgment as human beings, those who in addition to their mother, also need medical aid and a right to life, as enumerated in the Declaration of Independence and 14th amendment to the U.S. Constitution?
