Obituary: Don Detwiler, Pratt

PRATT-  Donald  (Don) Eugene Detwiler, 92, passed away February 25, 2021 in Pratt, Kansas.  He was born June 26, 1928 in Hutchinson to Homer Clifford and Martha Faye Pinkston Detwiler. At the age of one the family moved to Pratt. Don married Goldie Stults  July 3, 1951. They were married for 69 years.

 Donald  (Don) attended Pratt High School graduating in 1946. He was a member of First Baptist Church. He work for the Rock Island, Cotton Belt, Southern Pacific, Union Pacific Railroads for 65 years retiring in 2010.  He did Operation Life Saver, which was information on railroad crossing safety which he presented to school children and bus drivers.  He was a Pratt City Utilities Commissioner, Pratt Area Chamber of Commerce Board Member and Served with the Kansas State Pupil Transportation Association. He enjoyed gardening, yard work and fixing anything.

He is survived by his wife Goldie; Two Sons, Ron Detwiler of Pratt, KS, Larry E. Detwiler of Topeka, KS; Two brothers, John Detwiler of Pratt, Kansas, Jimmy Detwiler of Valley Center, KS; grandsons, Chris (Jessica) Detwiler of Pratt, Kansas, Alex (Lacey) Detwiler of Shawnee, Kansas; grandaughter, Lindsay Detwiler of Pratt, Kansas; Four great grandsons, Kile Detwiler of Wichita, Kansas, Anthony Detwiler of Coldwater, Chase Miracle of Pratt, Ace Miracle of Pratt.

Don is preceded in death by his parents, daughter Kathy Garrison, brothers, Charles and Homer Detwiler; Sisters, Mary Agnes Turner; and Diane Brensing.

Visitation was Saturday, February 27, 2021 from 1 to 5 pm and Sunday, February 28, 2021 from 1 to 8 pm .  Funeral service was Monday, March 1, 2021 at Larrison Mortuary, Pratt with Pastor Kelly Jayne officiating. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery, Pratt.
