Clarence Harley Dancaster
Clarence Harley Dancaster passed away peacefully at Kansas Heart Hospital in Wichita on Saturday, August 28, 2021. He was surrounded by his family and best friends Houston and Mary Collier. Harley was born on February 20, 1949 in Great Bend, Kansas to Clarence Henry "Dan" and Fannie Mildred (McGraw) Dancaster.
Harley decided to join the Navy in 1967 when he was 18 and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device.
Harley met the beautiful Violet Gail Shaub, the love of his life, while in the Navy and decided to marry her on January 16th, 1971, before someone else could scoop her up and take her away. They celebrated their 50-year anniversary this year. With this union of love brought three awesome children; Kristina "Kris" Stephens (David Voss), Lola "Lo" Shumway (Jeff) and Harley "Little Harley" Dancaster (Ann). Five onery grandchildren; Tessa Stephens (Shane VanSteenburg), Taylor Black (James), Nichole Moreland (Chris Prescott), Trenton Dancaster and Elizabeth Voss. Three precious great-grandchildren, Emma Moreland, Atticus Harley Black and Olivia Prescott. Many honorary family members called him "Dad" or "Papa" and he loved them as his own.
Harley was employed with the City of Pratt for 36 years. He retired in 2015 as Street Superintendent. He may have had a bad heart but a huge heart. He loved to joke with and tease everyone he met. If you could take it and give it right back, you were a friend for life. Needless to say, he had a lot of friends for life.
We know he is in heaven drinking bourbon and coke with his son-in-law Randy Stephens and the legendary John (the Duke) Wayne, fighting over the TV remote with father-in-law Edgar Shaub (so he doesn't have to watch Lawrence Welk) and reminiscing with his parents, mother-in-law Rosa Shaub and various family members and friends who are no longer with us.
Harley did not want a funeral. However, instead of tossing him in the back of the sanitation truck as he suggested, he will be inurned and we will have a celebration of his life at the Elks Lodge in Pratt on September 18, 2021 at 5 pm. We hope you can join us.
Fair winds and following seas Dad.
