These readers get a jump start on school with summer of reading fun and achievements.

All three branches of the Kiowa County Library enjoyed a busy summer reading season. The theme for this year’s program was “A Universe of Stories.” A total of 102 children from all over the county completed at least one chart, meaning they read at least 20 books over the summer.
Preschooler Layla Banta had the most books read to her, with 330 books. The top readers were second grader Casey Eck and fourth grader Eli Ratzlaff, both with 130 books.
The library held a celebration on Monday, July 29, for the children who completed a reading chart. Magician Eric Vaughn of McPherson performed a magic show. Attendees were treated to moon Oreos and had the chance to enter a prize drawing. “I’m so proud of all of our summer readers! Kids were very engaged and it was fun for the library to be a hub of activity,” said Head Librarian Cassie Gamble.
