WICHITA — Lucille V. (Melson) Ellis, 83, formerly of Conway Springs, died Sunday, August 11, 2019 in Wichita, KS. She was born May 8, 1936 at Baltimore, Maryland to Alvin James Melson and Margaret Virginia (Burke) Melson. Lucille moved with her family to many areas as a child. Her family lived in Hutchinson, KS, Tucson, AZ and eventually Pratt, KS. Lucille graduated from Pratt High School with the class of 1954. She continued her education and attended Nurses Training at St. Mary’s of the Plains and St. Joseph Hospital in Wichita.

Lucille was united in marriage to Charles Walter Ellis on November 29, 1957 at Pratt, Kansas. They moved to Conway Springs on November 27, 1959 following the purchase of the local telephone exchange by his family. Lucille worked as the school nurse for USD 356. She later worked in the local office alongside of Charles at Haviland Telephone Company for many years. The couple retired in December of 1991. Charles passed away January 19, 2019.

Lucille was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Conway Springs where she was active in the Presbyterian Women. She had also served on the Conway Springs Volunteer Ambulance as an EMT for many years.

Lucille was also preceded in death by her parents; one brother A. J. Melson and one son Dale Ellis.

She is survived by two daughters: Elaine Ellis of Belleview, NE; Lisa Bittle and husband Leland of Andover, KS; one son Kenneth Ellis of Wichita, KS; 6 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren and a number of other relatives and friends.

Graveside Memorial Service will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Saturday, August 17, 2019 in Conway Springs Cemetery, (Second Addition) Conway Springs, KS with Pastor Jason Lowery officiating. Inurnment to follow in Conway Springs Cemetery, Conway Springs, Kansas. Arrangements are by Ebersole Mortuary, Conway Springs.
