WICHITA — Gary Thompson, 79, died July 13, 2019, at home in Wichita, Kansas.

He was born December 10, 1939, five miles northwest of Haviland, Kansas at his parents home. He was the oldest child of W.J. (Jennings) and Jennie (Williamson) Thompson.

He farmed northwest of Haviland until 1980, when he moved to Eagle Nest, N.M. There he was owner and manager of the D& D Cafe and motel. In 2014 he retired and returned to Kansas, residing in Wichita. He was a member of the Church of Christ.

On April 1, 1961, he married June Winklepleck at Cullison, Kansas. She survives.

Other survivors include: 1 son, Bruce (wife Reneata) of Columbus, Ga.; and 1 daughter, Starla Ortega (husband Jorge) of Pratt; 2 grandchildren, Michael and Renata; 5 great-grandchildren; 1 brother, Steve of Haviland; and 3 sisters, Diana Grimm of Conway Springs, Susie Corbet of Augusta, and Cindi Christensen of Sawyer.

A memorial service will be held at East Point Church of Christ in Wichita, Kansas on Tuesday, July 30 at 10:30 a.m., with the pastor Michael Jones presiding.
