Cold wind and overcast skies couldn't keep the spirit of the Kiowa County Mavericks down as students and community celebrated homecoming on Friday, September 28.
Following a firetruck, members of the Kiowa County High School Band marched in the 2018 Homecoming Parade leading homecoming floats from several classes and groups. The class of 2022 portrayed an old- fashioned sock hop with their “Make this one for the Record;” Haviland’s 90th Play Day was represented with students hoping for warmer weather; "Sail into Victory" was the theme created by the class of 2021 ; and the class of 2020 put together a timeline float depicting important events in history.
After the parade and prior to the beginning of the Friday night football game between Kiowa County and Spearville, 2018 homecoming candidates and attendants braved the weather and were introduced on the field. Winning a medal as this year's king was Camden VandenHoek and Alex Friesen was crowned 2018 queen.
