Leona Mae Travis, 92, Emporia, Kansas, passed away Saturday, March 31, 2018 at the Emporia Presbyterian Manor.
Leona Mae Hargadine was born December 9, 1925 at Mullinville, Kansas the daughter of Loren Henry and Rella May (Stevens) Hargadine. She married Dr. David E. Travis May 29, 1949 in Greensburg, Kansas. Dr. Travis died December 24, 1994.
Surviving family members include her daughter; Renee Vincent and her husband, John, and their sons; Aaron, his wife, Anna, and their son Oswin, and Tyler, his wife, Beth and their children James & Isabella. Son; David Travis, his wife, Tammy, and their daughters, Wessyn & Shiloh.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Clayton Hargadine, and sister, Melva Webster.
Mrs. Travis received her BS degree in Music from Emporia State University and her MS degree from the University of Texas, Austin. She taught music in Garden City, Kansas, Tyler, Texas, and Saffordville, Kansas, retiring in 1990.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Emporia, Miriam Chapter #14, Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter ES of PEO, Sigma Alpha Iota, International honorary Music Fraternity for Women, and Alpha Delta Kappa, Honorary Sorority for Teachers, as well as several other organizations in Emporia.
Funeral services will be held at the Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home on Friday, April 6, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. Pastor Brenda Ulrich, Grace United Methodist Church will conduct the service. Eastern Star service will be provided by Miriam Chapter #14, Order of the Eastern Star. Burial will be in the Memorial Lawn Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home during the hour before the service.
