Kyler Ludwig of Orem, Utah, joined Greensburg as the new city administrator on Monday.

Ludwig received a bachelor’s degree in political science from Utah Valley University and a master’s in public administration from the University of Kansas. He served as the assistant city administrator in Goddard for the past two years.

“When I saw the position in Greensburg was open, I became interested because Greensburg is a great community that is focused on sustainability,” Ludwig said. “It’s a community that successfully rebuilt and continues that process. It’s 20 years in advance of so many other communities, which I think really makes it a unique location in Kansas.”

He said he believes Greensburg rebuilt right from the tornado that destroyed the community in 2007.

“They looked at input from the community and what was happening around the world around them, and they chose to rebuild in the right way,” he said. “They chose to be energy efficient, and I think they rebuilt not only for themselves, but also for future generations. I think it’s important to maintain that attitude, even though we’re not rebuilding in the same way.”

He said his main responsibility is to follow the direction of the city council and make its actions come to fruition.

“My main goal to maintain an effective staff to ensure that we’re efficient in what we do and we are able to keep an open communication with the public,” he said.

One of seven children, Ludwig moved to Greensburg last week with his wife, Kristin, whom he married in March.

“I’m ecstatic about being in this community because people have been so friendly already,” he said. “I’ve fallen in love with the people I’ve been able to meet so far. I’m excited to become more of a part of the community.”
