A fire in a house in Pratt Monday has claimed the lives of two infants and injured their mother.

A fire in a Pratt home Monday afternoon has claimed the lives of two infants and sent their mother to a burn unit in Wichita.

At 2:44 p.m. Pratt Firefighters, Pratt Rescue and Pratt County EMS responded to the fire in the 600 block of south High.

Upon arrival, it was determined that two infants were in the residence that was consumed in fire. Emergency crews worked diligently to rescue the children but they were pronounced dead at the scene, said Pratt Police Detective Jeff Ward.

The children's mother was burned in the fire. Pratt County EMS transported her to Pratt Regional Medical Center and then later transferred to Via Christi St. Francis burn unit for fire related injuries.

The children's father was not home at the time of the fire. No names are being released at this time.

Township 12 Fire and Rescue and the Pratt County Sheriff's Department assisted at the fire. The Kansas Fire Marshall's Office is assisting in determining the origin of the fire.

The Cannonball Trail Chapter of the American Red Cross also assisted at the fire.

Fire crews were still on site after four hours.
