One of the most popular Easter symbols is the Easter egg.  Eggs are a symbol of rebirth and renewal.  Decorating and giving away eggs for Easter has been done for ages.  The Egyptians, Greeks, and Romans did this as a symbol of life.  Christians used to exchange red eggs to symbolize the ending and resurrection of Jesus’ life.

The Easter egg roll on the White House lawn had been a tradition since 1878. 

Easter is a Christian holiday.  It celebrates the resurrection of Christ. According to Christian history, Jesus was crucified on a Friday and rose three days later on Sunday.  In 325 AD the church council of Nicaea decided that Easter should be made a true holiday.  They also stated that it should be held on the first Sunday after the full moon landing after the 21st of March, which is the Equinox.  That is why Easter will always fall between March 22nd and April 25th.

Rabbits have a similar meaning to eggs.  The ancient Egyptians believed that the symbol of new life or rebirth was the rabbit.  Some believe that rabbits are a symbol of the moon.  Rabbits have a duel meaning for Easter because the moon determines the date of Easter as well as the rebirth of Christ.

There are 90million chocolate Easter bunnies made for Easter each year.  When we eat those bunnies 76% of us will bite off the ears first. Adults prefer their chocolate bunnies be made from milk chocolate.  

16 billion jelly beans are made specifically for Easter.  Kids prefer red ones and 75% are willing to do extra chores for more Easter candy.

Here are some tips for those decorated eggs you are going to make for Easter: To make hard boiled eggs, use eggs that are at least a week old. Place in a pan in a single layer and cover with water.  Bring them to a boil, cover and remove from heat. Let the eggs set for about 15 minutes.  Cool in cold tap or ice water. If you want to eat the decorated eggs be sure to follow some simple food safety steps: Use Food safe dyes and decorations. Keep the cooked eggs refrigerated as much as possible. Hide the eggs in safe places to prevent damage or contamination. Do not leave the eggs out of the refrigerator more than 2 hours. Use uncracked, refrigerated eggs within a week of cooking them.
