Ruth Elizabeth (Kruse) West, 90, died September 15, 2011 at the Kiowa County Memorial Hospital in Greensburg, KS. She was born October 5 to Clarence Clemence Kruse and Eva Irene (Williams) Kruse at their family farm southeast of Greensburg. She was an only child.
Ruth graduated from Greensburg High School in 1937 and worked as a bookkeeper at J.C. Penney’s before marrying Dale Archer West on May 5, 1940. They made their home in Greensburg and raised two sons, Dale Eugene West and Kenneth Alan West, both of Greensburg.
Ruth was a member of the First United Methodist Church, a Boy Scout den mother, and a member of Kroweldeen and Thimbelina Club. She and Dale Square danced, enjoyed traveling, and she loved trying out new recipes.
Her grandchildren were the center of her life. A great seamstress, she loved making special outfits for her grandchildren. Holidays became magical with games and decorations, and she was never too busy to pull the grandkids around the block in her wagon.
She is survived by her sons and their wives, their children and eleven great grandchildren: Kenneth and Mary Jean’s children and families: a son, Jason and Susan (Cooper) West and their children, Tierra, Bo, and Brett; a daughter, Malinda West and Kyle Kindall and Malinda’s sons, Coleman West and Bailey Duvall, and Kyle’s daughter, Kylee.
Gene and Janet’s children and families: a daughter, Kimberly, and DJ McMurry and their daughters, McKelvie and Ellery; A son, Cory, and Natausha (Bartlett) West and their sons Koby and Cohan, and Cory’s son Jordan Newby; and a daughter, Janeve, and Julia (Andrews) West and their daughter, Ruth.
Viewing will be held Friday, September 16 from 5 to 7 p.m. with services on Saturday, September 17 at 2:30 with flower service at 1:15 at the First United Methodist Church in Greensburg.
