Greensburg Planning Commission members Travis Barnes and John Wickland received the “Pioneer Award” from the Kansas chapter of the American Planning Association for the commission’s landmark “Sustainable Land Development Code” that was adopted in March. Former Community Development Director Mike Gurnee was also honored at the Thursday ceremony in Topeka.

From the Planning Association: “The Pioneer Award for a rural area or small town goes to the City of Greensburg for their Sustainable Land Development Code. The awards committee thought the code will serve as a great example of how to implement sustainable design principles, particularly for small towns. This code implements Greensburg's 2008 Pioneer Award winning Sustainable Comprehensive Plan.”
