Peggy Joann "Jody Goodnight" Ayers, 75, died September 6, 2011 in Oberlin, Kansas, She was born March 21, 1936 in Greensburg, Kansas, the daughter of Clarence Marshall and Lucille Mae (Carr) Alton. She graduated from Colby Community College in 1973 and from Garden City Community College in 1977 with a degree in Nursing. Jody was a Director of Nursing and had worked and lived in Bethel Alaska, Wichita and Dighton, Kansas, McAlester, Oklahoma and on the Navajo Indian Reservation at Chinle, Arizona. Her memberships include the American Nursing Association, The Order of the Eastern Star and the Rebekah Lodge. She is survived by two daughters, Dr. Marsha K. Smith and Catherine (Goodnight) Howard, both of Oberlin, half-brother Clarence Marshall "Rusty" Alton, II, three grandsons Gene Goodnight, Wichita, Marshall Goodnight, Dodge City, Kansas, and Aaron Goodnight, Comanche, Oklahoma, and seven Great-grandchildren Jaclyn, Samantha, Breonna, Brandon, Dakota, Hailey and Voila Goodnight. She was preceded in death by her parents Clarence Marshall Alton and Lucille Mae Burns, a brother Jack D. Alton, a sister Shirley (Schmidt) Ireland, and an infant son Larry Max Ayers. Funeral services and celebration of her life will be 2:30 p.m., Saturday, September 10, 2011 at the First United Methodist Church, Greensburg, with Pastor Terry Mayhew officiating. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery, Mullinville. A visitation will be 10:00 a.m. to noon Saturday at the church.
