Greensburg, KS -

Greensburg and Haviland again met on the same track last week, competing in a field of 10 teams Friday at Spearville.  The Lady Dragons’ effort was good enough to finish third with 66 points, while their counterparts from Greensburg tied Ashland for fourth at 57.  Greensburg’s boys, meanwhile, led by the 26 points of Adam Haskin, claimed sixth with 55 total points, ahead of Haviland’s 43, good enough for seventh.
Haskin posted his first plus 50’ effort in the shot, heaving the rock 50’1”, good enough for gold, as was his 129’6” throw in the discus.  While his 151’8” heave in the javelin was another personal best, it good enough for only bronze, behind the 166’ and 157’ efforts of Bucklin’s Ben Vigness and Jetmore’s Tyler Beougher.
Megan Booth, meanwhile, got on track again with a 34’8” toss in the shot that took first, her 102’9” in the discus good for third.  Booth’s 90’2.5” effort took fourth in the javelin—an event won for the third consecutive week by Lindsey Heft, this time at 116’10.5”
Heft also had a season-best leap of 16’11” in the long jump, good for the top spot’s 10 points in that event.  Her 32’8” placed her third in the triple, which coincided with Eric’s White finish in the triple at 40’1”.  Ty Schaef got sixth at 37’8”. White’s 19’4.5” earned him fifth in the long jump, the same finish he managed in the 400 meters in a time of 57.35.  Haviland’s Tanner McFarland finished just ahead of White in the singular lap of the track at 56.98.  Lane Allison earned two points with a fifth-place finish in the high jump at 5’6”
Not able to compete again in the shorter events because of nagging injuries, Kacey Fulton (groin pull) and David Cesmat (quad strain) were both asked to slow the pace, Fulton assigned to run the third leg of the 4X800, which she did well enough to help earn the Lady Rangers a fifth finish in a time of 12:11.70, while Haviland took silver in 11:03.37.  Cesmat, meanwhile, legged out the 1600 meters well enough to finish ahead of five competitors.
The two schools also went head to head in the boys’ version of the 3200 relay, Haviland again finishing second, this time in 8:41.26, Greensburg 1:08 slower to claim fourth.  With the Rangers’ only other male sprinter, Grant Sirois, likely out until football with a bad hamstring, Darin McVay took fifth in the 100 meters in a time of 11.89.
While Cesmat’s quad injury kept him away from the hurdles, Morgan Fulton took second on the girls’ side of the 300-meter event with a time of 50.93.  She claimed sixth in the 100-meter version in 17.61.
The Haviland girls scored points in something other than a distance event when Selina Ferrari grabbed silver in the 400 meters in 1:06.62, while Ashley claimed fourth in 1:08.22.
The remaining Dragon points came in runs of 800 meters or longer, Ferrari claiming bronze in the 800 at 2:40.50, while Connor Drendel (2:07.98) grabbed second in the boys’ half-mile.  Greensburg’s Nathan Guyette ran a 2:16.14, good enough for fifth.  Drendel also won silver in the 1600 meters at 4:59.13, teammate Peyton Wade finishing sixth in 5:06.99.
Katelin Holland and Tina Emmersberger claimed second and third respectively for the Haviland gals in the 1600, with times of 6:05.39 and 6:23.99.  Holland and Emmersberger took first and second in the 3200 meters with respective times of 13:26.65 and 13:36.08.  Their male counterparts claimed 14 points in the same event, Sage Boman winning silver in 11:08.84, while Wade and Braden Stevens finished fourth and fifth respectively in finishes of 11:15.98 and 11:30.14.
