Jordan Eller goes up against Ashland's Megan Cunningham for two of her nine first half points while Kacey Fulton (15) looks on. Eller scored enough before the break to keep Greensburg within haling distance of the Lady Jays while Lindsey Heft spent much of the first 16 minutes on the bench with three quick fouls.

Greensburg, KS -

Greensburg’s Lady Rangers battled back from a 40-29 third quarter deficit Friday night to outscore Ashland 21-6 the final eight minutes and claim a 50-46 win.  The comeback moved GHS to the Regional finals Saturday night at Coldwater against Bucklin.
Down by as many as 10 in the first half, and with outside scoring threat Lindsey Heft on the bench after three quick fouls in the opening five minutes, Jordan Eller took up the slack, scoring nine of her 11 before the break to keep her team within shouting distance.
“Jordan really stepped up when she needed to when Lindsey had to sit,” Coach Marshall Ballard said later.  “She knows when she needs to step forward to score and it was important she did that then so the whole scoring burden didn’t fall on Kacey (Fulton) and Megan (Booth).”
Having suffered with the flu earlier in the week, Eller left late in the first half in physical distress and again midway through the third when she hurt her ribs falling to the floor.
Heft, meanwhile, returned in the second half to hit a couple of timely treys to help bring GHS back from the brink, while Kacey Fulton hit all six of her fourth quarter attempts from the free throw line to complete the rally.  Fulton, in fact, was 11-15 from the line for the game, often getting sent to the stripe in the closing minutes as Ashland found it difficult to deal with her drives to the bucket.  Fulton finished with a game-high 17, Heft with 10.
Fulton’s appearance on the floor was less than a certainty earlier in the week, having missed school both Wednesday and Thursday with the flu after playing Tuesday night in first round action against Fowler.  Ballard acknowledged the senior guard’s invaluable contribution in the game’s most critical moments.
“I told the girls before the game that they’d have to leave it all on the floor tonight or we’d be going home,” Ballard said.  “If it weren’t for number 15 (Fulton) and especially what she did at the line we’d be going home.”
Asked at what point he felt his team had a chance to rally Ballard pointed to midway through the third quarter just after Eller had to leave a second time, limiting his depth.
“We went to a zone then to save our legs and it helped,” he said.  “I just wanted to stay within 10 going into the fourth quarter to have a chance.  Later in the fourth I knew it was time to iso Kacey and keep doing it until they could stop her.  They never did.  And by the last couple of minutes they (Ashland) had no legs left.  That was key.”
