Greensburg, KS -

Coming off a 24-day layoff from competition following a groin pull at the April 15 Tom Gilmore Relays in Ashland, Greensburg’s Kacey Fulton made a strong return at Friday’s league meet in Spearville, racking up 28 points for her Lady Rangers with gold performances in the 100 meters, long jump and a second in the 200.  The GHS girls finished with a total of 74 points, good enough for second to Minneola’s 118.
Unable to best Minneola’s Kara Minor in 2008 in the 100 until Friday, Fulton edged her league nemesis by less than half a stride, only to fall to Minor by a similar margin in the longer dash.  Fulton’s official time in the 100 was 12.84, while she ran a 27.1 200.  Fulton also leapt a meet-best 16’8.75” in the long jump, her first action in the pit this season, meaning she qualifies for all three event as this Friday’s regional at Montezuma.
Younger sister Morgan, meanwhile, gathered a fifth in the 100-meter hurdles (18.3) and second in the 300 hurdles at 50.3.  Lindsey Heft fell slightly short of her season best efforts in the javelin, having a best toss of 117’2”, good for third, after grabbing third in the long jump with a 16’.5” effort, and winning leap of 33’1.25” in the triple jump, meaning she as well qualifies for three events at South Gray.
Also qualified for Regionals is Megan Booth in shot put, whose toss of 32’2.5” was good enough for second Friday, in addition to a third place discus throw of 99’2”.
Points were won for the Greensburg boys by Lane Allison, whose leap of 5’10” won sixth in the high jump, while Ty Schaef’s 37’8.75” in the triple jump earned him fourth.  Adam Haskin took third in the javelin with a throw of 145’1” and fourth in the discus with a 126’8.25” effort.  Haskin’s 51’5.75” heave in the shot was a personal best and good enough for second to Walt Woolwine’s 52’8.25”.  Haskin looks to advance to the state meet in all three events.  Kenny Cesmat took third in the shot with a throw of 46’4.75”.  GHS also took sixth in the 4X800 relay while Haviland’s boys took silver in a time of 8:48.2.
Conner Drendel was second best in the 1600 meters for Haviland in a time of 4:53.9, while Tina Emmersberger won bronze in the mile at 6:14.8 on the girls’ side.  Both will be at Montezuma as well.  Peyton Wade was fifth in the boys’ 1600 at 5:06.2, while Drendel won fifth in the 800 meters at 2:08.7.  Wade also took sixth in the 3200 meters at 11:07.4, while Emmersberger’s 13:04.9 was good enough for second on the girls’ side.  Selina Ferrari, meanwhile, placed twice, taking fourth in the 400 meters with a time of 1:05.2 and fifth in the 800 meters at 2:35.2.
