Luella May Bailey, 96, passed away Wednesday, August 6, 2008, at the Edwards County Hospital in Kinsley, Kansas. Born September 2, 1911, at Hardtner, Kansas, she was the daughter of Lorenzo Christopher and Ethel Dean (Moores) Hinkle.
She was nearly a lifetime resident of Coldwater, Kansas, moving there from Wilmore, Kansas in 1943. She recently lived in Greensburg, Kansas and Kinsley, Kansas. She graduated from Wilmore High School in 1931. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Coldwater, Kansas, where she was involved in many church activities. She worked as a nurses aide at the Comanche County Hospital for fifteen years, a home health nurse, and as manager of the Prairie Plaza Nutrition Site in Coldwater, Kansas for twenty years.
On August 27, 1932, she married William H. Bailey at the Methodist Parsonage in Coldwater, Kansas. He preceded her in death on October 16, 1975.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter: Lue Rita Edwards; and four sisters: Delzia Dean Hinkle, Florence Bailey, Alice Bailey, and Viola White..
She is survived by three brothers: Luther Hinkle of Pratt, Kansas, Phillip Hinkle of Temple, Texas, and Francis Hinkle of Wichita, Kansas; four grandchildren: Bill Edwards and his wife Marla of Allen, Kansas, Jill Metzger and her husband Chuck of Wilmore, Kansas, Terry Edwards and his wife Chris of Marion, Kansas, and Randy Edwards and his wife Ruth of Ulysses, Kansas; fourteen greatgrandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral service is at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, August 9, 2008, at the First Christian Church in Coldwater, Kansas with Chet Mendenhall presiding.
Burial will follow the funeral service at Crown Hill Cemetery in Coldwater, Kansas.
