reensburg- Bethel Lavern Thronesbery, 81, died December 31, 2009, at Promise Regional Medical Center, Hutchinson, Kansas. He was born April 11, 1928 in Carney, Oklahoma, the son of Lewis C. and Riettie Ruminer Thronesbery. Bethel was a retired butcher and farmer. He had also been employed by Kansas Department of Transportation in the Greensburg area. He had lived in Carney, OK, Ashland, Protection, Medicine Lodge,  Haviland, and Greensburg since 1952. Bethel was a member of the Greensburg Christian Church, Kiowa County Senior Citizens, former Greensburg City Council Member, Southwest Kansas Area on Aging, the Silver Haired Legislature and the Dirty Dozen card group. He was a World War Two Veteran, serving in the U.S. Marines.

On February 18, 1951, Bethel married Joyce Ward in Coldwater, Kansas. She preceded him in death October 19, 2004. He is survived by one son Lowell and wife Tina Thronesbery, Greensburg, Three daughters Paula Thronesbery, Cairo, Nebraska, Bethel Goff and husband Travis, Loxley, Alabama, and Vickie Alberts and husband Joseph M., Merritt Island, Florida, Fourteen Grandchildren, Thirteen Great-grandchildren, including a special care giver, Granddaughter Starla Pemberton. He was also preceded by a daughter Janet McDonald, four brothers Floyd, Ray, C.L., and Romey Thronesbery, and a sister Clois Stevens.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 6, 2010 at the Greensburg Christian Church with Pastor T.J. Lawson presiding. Burial with military honors will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Greensburg, A visitation will be held 5:00-7:00 p.m. Tuesday at the church. Memorials are suggested to the Kiowa County Senior Citizens in care of Fleener Funeral Home, 514 S. Main St. Greensburg, Kansas, 67054.
