LARNED - Curtis (Curt) E. Pebley, 76, passed away June 21, 2017 at Pratt Health and Rehab, Pratt, Kansas.
He was born Oct. 4, 1940, in Lakin, Kansas; the son of Harold J. and Ruby Kash Pebley. A resident of Larned since 1982, moving from Great Bend, he was a petroleum engineer and owner and operator of Phoenix Wireline Inc.
He was of the Christian faith, was past President and Board member of the Kansas Western Horseman's Association and was a many time KWHA state champion in pole bending and barrel racing. He was one of the founders of the Horseman's Herald and was the editor for many years and was a member of the Old Timer's Roping Association.
He married Jeri Lehr in May of 1963 and later married Sheryl Deanne Smith July 20, 1983 in Larned, Kansas. She survives.
Other survivors include; a son, Jake Pebley, a daughter, Sloan (Kraig) Clawson, all of Great Bend, a brother, Warren (Phyllis) Pebley, Hutchinson; mother-in-law, Dolores Powell, Larned, two grandchildren, Koen Pebley, Roxanna Clawson, both of Great Bend, and two step-grandchildren, Kody (Phylleicia) Clawson, Ellinwood and Kane (Rachel) Clawson, Great Bend and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by; a brother, Darrell Pebley and two sisters, Ann Colvert and Linda Reynolds.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday at Southern Baptist Church, Larned with Pastor Mark Slattery presiding. Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Beckwith Mortuary, Larned. Burial will be in Garfield Cemetery, Garfield, Kansas.
