A group of Greensburg residents are looking for names and contact information for Greensburg children who have been born since the May 2007 tornado for a commemorative calendar.
“We are looking for kids that were born residents of Greensburg after May 4, 2007,” said organizer Judi Kirk. “It will be an 18-month calendar depicting the next generation of Greensburg residents. They will be photographed as farmers, members of the city council, at the soda fountain, as the sheriff, as a judge, as a preacher and bunch of other jobs. It’s going to be so much fun.”
Children will play the roles of adults in the photographs that will be part of a calendar and a fundraiser for the Twilight Theater. The calendars will be sold during the fifth anniversary weekend.
Kirk says that it has been challenging to find local children because there is no “master list” of names. The current list has come from a number of varying sources.
“We have about 40 names,” continued Kirk. “But we know that the list is not complete. We are hoping people will see our flyers and this newspaper article and will contact us. Even if it’s friends of the family, or neighbors or relatives if we can find the names we can mail all of the information to the families and hopefully they will want to participate. They might not, but at least we will be able to ask.”
Kirk says that the schedule for the photo shoots, which are being organized by Kiowa County Signal Editor Patrick Clement in conjunction with the Kiowa County Media Center, begin on Feb. 16, so time to contact parents is short.
“Each family will get multiple scene choices and our schedule has a lot of options,” she continued. “I hope parents see that even though we have these new buildings and new streets, that their children are the most important part of the rebuilding process, and we want to celebrate that.”
