As if the big guy didn’t have enough to do during the holiday season, Kris Kringle aka “Santa Claus” took time away from his North Pole workshop to meet Kiowa County boys and girls on Sunday.

“Wow, what a wonderful trip!” said Kringle who took a Kiowa County Fire Truck the last leg of his trip up Main Street. “I’m so happy I could come and see all of the wonderful boys and girls of Kiowa County.”

Kringle spent three hours on Sunday inside the Kiowa County Commons building meeting with area children, making last-minute additions to his “nice” list and making sure all of the children were behaving.

“Make sure you listen to your parents, clean your room and wash behind your ears.” Kringle said to one of his visitors. The young man said that he had been good and promptly asked for a truck before skipping away with his candy cane.

“We had lots of people,” said Media Center President Janet West. “We had a steady stream of little ones and it went really well. Santa did a remarkable job with some of the little ones who might not have seen Santa before. It was just really neat.”

Kiowa County was able to get Santa to come, despite his hectic schedule, in part because of close friend and possible distant relative Mark Buckley, the local Kansas Small Business Development consultant.

“Well, Santa is a hard guy to get a hold of this time of year,” said Buckley, who shares a striking resemblance with the jolly, red nosed gift-giver. “But he told me that there was no place he’d rather be than in Kiowa County.”

Santa returned to the North Pole following his trip to Kiowa County where he will spend the next two weeks preparing for Christmas eve by making his list and checking it twice.

Although, sources close to Santa tell us that this may not be entirely factual.

“Everyone always thinks that he checks the list twice,” said the source who spoke on the condition of anonymity,” but the truth is, he checks it at least three or four times. Sometimes he checks it five or six times. It’s kind of obsessive if you ask me.”
