Taking pains to observe restrictions of confidentiality, Mullinville USD 424 Principal Darrel Kohlman did confirm to The Signal Friday afternoon an “incident” had taken place at the junior high school there Wednesday morning that resulted in local law enforcement being called on the scene to help resolve the matter.
The Signal called Kohlman after several parents either visited or called The Signal office Friday morning and afternoon to voice concerns over their understanding of the Wednesday incident as having involved a student that had misbehaved in a threatening manner Wednesday morning.  Kohlman, however, assured The Signal that no one in the building at the time of the incident was in danger at any point of the situation.
Told that several parents had informed The Signal that starting Monday they were planning to keep their children home from school until the matter were resolved to their way of thinking, Kohlman said, “They’ve (parents) got to trust the school and its system to protect their children.  We’re working this out.”
Further saying the matter is “not nearly as big a deal as the rumors going around make it out to be,” Kohlman also said he is understanding of “where parents are coming from” in terms of concern for their children’s safety.  “But,” he concluded, “there’s a lot of misinformation out there.”
