Barclay College President Herb Frazier recently announced the Haviland school’s fall semester is up significantly from that of a year ago.  With 160 full time students currently attending classes on campus the institution has seen a 31 percent jump over the figure of a year ago.
After expected online full time students are factored in with even more that will soon be participating through one of the two adult education centers in Indianapolis, Frazier said he thinks full time students will number in excess of 200.
Vice President of Advancement Steve Teter told The Signal the college is now the largest employer in Kiowa County with at least 130 staff members, faculty and work study participants due to be compensated by the end of the calendar year.
As for how the pair of extended campus sites in central Indiana came to be, Teter said several Barclay alumni in the Indianapolis area recently requested the development.
“They contacted us earlier this summer and asked if we couldn’t pursue that,” Teter said.  “Since there was interest we were able to do so.  There’s a site on both the east and west side of the city.”
Teter also said a number of Spanish-speaking pastors are taking classes in pastoral studies in Oregon in what he describes as a “home college” program.
Students from 23 states and two foreign countries are part of the Barclay student body, including representatives of 24 denominations.
