Representatives from the Siemens Corp. were present at Monday night’s city council meeting to present the 2011 Siemens Sustainable Community Award to the city of Greensburg.

Siemens Senior Marketing Specialist Kathryn Rosser cited the city’s high per-capita LEED building construction and the city’s wind farm during her speech to the council, which concluded with a presentation of a framed photo.

The award was first presented to Mayor Bob Dixson in April 2011 in Philadelphia at the National Conference on Corporate Community Investment, which was hosted by the Business Civil Leadership Center. The BCLC is a non-profit affiliated with the U.S Chamber of Commerce whose mission is “to promote better business and society relations and improve long-term social and economic conditions.”

According to its website affiliated organizations include Capital One, Chevron, ExxonMobil, FedEx, IBM, Microsoft, Dow Chemical, Intel, Siemens and others.

A $20,000 tree grant accompanied the award and Dixson announced that the trees planted from the grant would be used for the Big Well Museum at the recommendation of the Greensburg Tree Board.

“It will be a wonderful addition,” said Ann Dixson, a member of the tree board who was present for the announcement.

“It means a lot to recognize what the council and community have done to create a future for our children,” said Mayor Dixson.
