The deadline to register for the FreeGreen.com and Greensburg GreenTown Chain of Eco-Homes design contest is this Saturday, Aug 15. This contest is the first of its kind, with the competitors’ entries helping to design lodging for eco-tourists in the emerging model green community of Greensburg, Kansas. Entrants will be setting a new standard for affordable green homes, utilizing innovations around the use of disaster-resistant residential wall systems.
Featuring a $10,000 grand prize, the competition has sparked extraordinary interest, with over 170 registrants from all over the world seeking to have their designs considered by a world class jury and, for the first time, an online public voting process. Home design submissions will be seen online from September 15-30, where it is anticipated that tens of thousands of people will review and vote on these proposed homes of the future.The final 10 designs will be judged by leading figures in the green building and design world, including Michelle Kauffman of Michelle Kaufmann Designs; Allison Arieff, editor- at-large for Sunset and the "By Design" columnist for The New York Times; Lloyd Alter, architect, developer, inventor, and writer for TreeHugger.com; and Ron Jones, builder and founder of GREEN BUILDER Media.
