John Ray Rose, La Crosse, Kansas, died Friday, March 23, 2018, at the age of 79. He was born to Ray and Alice (Fruit) Rose.

He went to elementary school in Wellsford, Kansas, graduated from Haviland High School, Pratt Community College, and Fort Hays State College.

He married Meredith Rose on August 9, 1964, in Greensburg, Kansas.

He taught and coached a total of 37 years in the Haviland, Garden City, and La Crosse school systems. Upon retiring he became a published author of several books for children and adults.

He is survived by this wife, Meredith; a son Michael (Nicole); a daughter Anne Marie Rose (Todd Adams); brothers, Charlie (Judeen), Leroy (Diane), and Richard (Rosalie); sisters, Kathryn Barron, Carolyn Rasheta (George Lontos), Rita Sluder (Danny); and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Daniel.

Visitation will be Wednesday, March 28, 2018, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Janousek Funeral Home, La Crosse, Kansas.

Church visitation will be Thursday, March 29, 2018, from 10:00 a.m. to 10:50 a.m. at the United Methodist Church, La Crosse, Kansas.

Funeral service will be Thursday, March 29, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. at the United Methodist Church, La Crosse, Kansas, with Pastor Angie Vertz officiating.

Interment will be Thursday, March 29, 2018, at 3:00 p.m. in the Wellsford Cemetery, Wellsford, Kansas.

In lieu of flowers or plants, the family requests memorials to the United Methodist Church, La Crosse, Kansas, or the Barnard Library, La Crosse, Kansas.
