GARDEN CITY — Patricia D. Smith, 79, departed this life Thursday, December 21, 2017 in Wichita, Kansas. She was a resident of Garden City since 1971. She was a homemaker. Patricia was the daughter of Weldon J. and Nellie Douglass. She was born on a ranch south of Mullinville, Kansas. Patricia was the loving wife of Stanley C. Smith for 57 years. They married in Mullinville January 30, 1960.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother Donald. Survivors include her husband, one daughter Dawn Garey, two sons Stanton and Grant, three Granddaughters, one Grandson, one Great-granddaughter, two sisters Eleanor Embree and Nancy Davis.

Patricia loved genealogy and self-published several books to help other genealogists find sources in their search for their family history. She also self-published a 100 year history of the ranch that she was born on. She was a leader for the Happy Hustler 4-H club for many years. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Garden City, the William Wilson chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Acorn Club and the Finney County Genealogical Society.

Funeral Services and celebration of Pat’s life will be held 3:00 p.m. Saturday, December23, 2017 at Fleener Funeral Home, Greensburg, Kansas with Pastor Terry Mayhew presiding. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery, Mullinville. There will be no visitation and the casket will remain closed.
