The Wichita State University’s Center for Entrepreneurship, in partnership with Kiowa County Economic Development Corp, the USDA, the City of Greensburg and Network Kansas, is pleased to announce the premier of a new entrepreneurial certificate program “Growing Rural Businesses” in Greensburg this February.

Designed specifically for Kansas rural business owners and entrepreneurs, this two-month program focuses on providing hands-on, practical solutions and techniques to grow and modernize business ventures while living in a rural setting including small group exercises, case studies, interactive discussions with peers, facilitators and industry experts.  All sessions are held from 11a.m. – 3 p.m. on Fridays from February 3 - April 20, 2012 with a program fee of $300 per person.  Scholarships are available for Kiowa County participants so that their cost is only $50.

Scott Reinecke of Studio 54 in Greensburg said, “What an incredible opportunity.  Over the years I have looked at getting my MBA, but this is actually better because it is so specific to what we are doing AND they are coming to us!”

“In light of the challenging economic times, every business owner and entrepreneur can improve the performance of their businesses by targeting needed upgrades,” said Dr. Tim Pett, Director/Professor for Center for Entrepreneurship and Professor.  Dr. Pett will lead the February 3 session, Entrepreneurial Mindset for Small Businesses, concentrating on building a business concept statement and vision.

“The focus of this program is to help business owners acquire tools to not only survive, but to flourish in a rural environment.   It is a very hands-on, immediately useful program that is concise and effective.  When Greensburg decided to rebuild, it was with an eye toward the future and with that comes a need to conduct our small businesses more effectively to compete in today’s economy.” said Dee Chandler, Executive Director of Kiowa County Economic Development.   She further added, “It keeps us out there as a living laboratory for doing things differently in a rural environment.”
