Discovery Channel for the “Greensburg” television series confirmed to The Signal Thursday morning that agreement has been reached to produce a third season of the program, set to begin airing next May.
Greensburg City Administrator Steve Hewitt told The Signal a Discovery crew is scheduled to be in town October 23 for the groundbreaking of the new wind farm as well as the last regular season home football game the following Thursday—a likely showdown with Macksville for the division championship.
According to Gould, production crews will likely come out to Greensburg “every couple of weeks or so to cover something in particular” much as they did for season two. A crew worked in residence for over a year shortly after the tornado to produce the first season of the series.
“Season one we basically showed what Greensburg used to be and how the town was starting over,” Gould said. “Season two was a continuation of that, with the completion of the Incubator the first new retail space in town one of the events we featured. Season three will be aimed at tying up some of the loose ends of the story lines we’ve followed the first two seasons and showing that here’s a town that’s actually going to make it.”
