A number of area participants either recorded points for their schools in field events or have qualified for state final action on Saturday at the Kansas State High School Activities Association.

There were no area state champions in field events on Friday, but a number who won medals.

Minneola's Jayda Minor finished second in the Class 1A 3,200 in a time of 12:02.93; while South Central's Coby Lindsey was the state runner-up in the 2A javelin (175-10) and South Gray's Jake Peters was second in the 2A shot put (52-6).

Other boys who also medaled on Friday include Spearville's Nathan Stein (2A triple jump, third, 42-9), South Central's Stetson Underwood (2A long jump, fourth, 20-6 3/4), and Kiowa County's Frank Cuevas (2A 3,200, fourth, 9:51.62), and Payton Miller (2A pole vault, seventh, 12-0).

Other girls who medaled include Kiowa County's Riann Heft (2A triple jump, fifth, 34-4) and Bucklin's Janae Price (1A 3,200, sixth, 12;32.29).

Those individual girls who qualified for today's state action include Minneola's Shaley Shumate (1A 100 hurdles, 16.54), Kiowa County's Heather Melton (2A 100 hurdles, 15.35), Meade's Tarah Wiens (2A 200, 26.57) and Jaydlin Stapleton (2A 400, 47.52).

The Meade 4x100 relay (Natalie Thompson, Jayden Rudzik, Jaylin Stapleton, Tarah Weins) qualified second in Class 2A (51.01), with the Kiowa County team (Katelynn Gamble, Dena Liggett, Morgan Powell, Heather Melton) finished fourth (51.40).

The 4x400 Kinsley relay team of Gisel Holguin, Laurin Wagner, Scout Frame and Kate Gleason (4:16.70) also qualified in 2A.

South Central's Koy Alexander qualified in two boys individual events in Class 2A (110 hurdles, 15.78; 300 hurdles, 42.24); as did Kiowa County's Trevor Powell (200, 25.48; 400, 51.86).

Other boys individuals who made it to the state finals include Bucklin's Isaiah Warnke (1A 110 hurdles, 16.23), South Central's Colton Herd (2A 400, 52.10), and Kinsley's Tyler Espinosa (2A 300 hurdles, 41.02).

South Central also had two relay teams qualify for Saturday runs in Class 2A: the 4x100 relay team of Colton Herd, Stetson Underwood, Alec Konrade and Nathan Brooks (45.81) and the 4x400 relay team (Herd, Underwood, Bayler Kelly, Brooks) (3:35.14).
