  • Rebels rout Wichita County in sub-state

  • The South Gray Rebels gave up only four points to Wichita County in the second quarter on the way to recording the victory in a Class 2A Syracuse sub-state first round contest. The Rebels led 15-13 after the opening quarter, but increased their lead over the Indians to 15 by halftime.
    South Gray increased their lead to 29 by the end of the third quarter on the way to the victory.
    Michael Martens and Tate Skinner scored 15 points apiece to lead the Rebels (18-3), while Jake Peters added 13 and Carson Skidmore 11 in the win. South Gray hit six 3-pointers on the way to advancing in the tournament.
    Jantz Budde scored 20 points to lead Wichita County (6-15). No other Indian scored more than four points in the loss.
    South Gray will face host-Syracuse in the semifinals Friday night at 7:30 p.m. Syracuse beat Stanton County 59-58.

    MEADE — The Buffaloes outscored the Larks 36-19 in the first half on the way to winning the Class 2A Syracuse sub-state battle between Hi-Plains League foes.
    Morgan Davis scored 20 points to lead Meade (18-3) with Tristin Lewis adding 14 and Aaron Gleason 12 in the victory.
    Trevor Leverett scored 21 to lead Sublette (6-15), while Andrew Lower added 11 and Travis Hinkle 10 in the loss.
    Meade will face Ness City in a semifinal contest at 6 p.m. Friday at Syracuse. Ness City beat Elkhart 69-62.

    COLDWATER — The Timberwolves led by seven at halftime and outscored the Coyotes 21-6 in the third quarter to beat the Coyotes in a Class 2A Kiowa County sub-state first round contest.

    Kameron Carey scored 14 points to lead Kinsley (6-15).
    The T-Wolves will face Central Plains in a semifinal game at 6 p.m. Friday. Central Plains beat Ellinwood 62-44. The other boys semifinal will be unbeaten St. John battling Medicine Lodge at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

    CIMARRON — The Lady Bluejays gave up only one point in the first quarter and built the lead up to 23 by halftime on the way to winning the Class 3A Cimarron girls sub-state first round contest over the Lady Mustangs.
    Ashtynn Burns scored 19 points to lead Cimarron (19-2), while Morgan Ediger added 17 in the win. The Lady Bluejays hit nine 3-pointers in the victory.
    Nayelly LaPoint and Jackie Loya scored nine points apiece to lead Southwestern Heights (9-12). No other player had more than two for the Lady Mustangs and the team made only five field goals.
    Cimarron will face Cheney in a semifinal contest at 7:30 p.m. Friday at CHS Gymnasium. Cheney beat Kingman 43-33 in another first round contest.
    Holcomb will play Garden Plain at 6 p.m. Friday in the other semifinal.

    Natalie Thompson scored 15 points to lead Meade (17-4) while Jaylin Stapleton added 12 and Beth Lewis 10 in the victory.
    Brooke Briggs and Shaycin Koehn scored eight points apiece to lead Sublette (3-17).
