  • The weather outside Saturday night was frightful despite no snow and the same could be said for the shooting of Cimarron guard Morgan Ediger in the girls championship game of her home tournament. Ediger scored 38 points -- 19 in each half -- to lead the Lady Bluejays to a 75-54 victory over the Meade Lady Buffaloes in the final of Bluejay Invitational. The junior hit six three-pointers (three in each half). "I didn't realize I had scored that many," Ediger said after the victory. "We just moved the ball really well and I just happened to be the one really open. I can knock the shot down when I'm open and my teammates did a great job in getting me open. "We really want to focus on running and getting to our goal this year, which is the state tournament." The Lady Bluejays (4-0) overcame an early run by Meade to take control of the game on the way to their third straight title in their home tournament. Cimarron has scored over 70 points in each of their four contests this season. "We talked about last year when Meade came out in the league tournament and were beating us after one (quarter)," said Cimarron head coach David Ediger. "They took it right as us and showed they weren't scared of anybody. They played a good first quarter for a while; but we talked about just staying within ourselves and playing our game, and things would come." Meade (3-1) led 8-7 four minutes into the game before Cimarron clamped down, giving up only one field goal in closing the first quarter with a 14-4 run to lead by nine. Ediger scored 10 during the Lady Bluejay run. The Lady Bluejays increased the lead to 31-18 by halftime and scored 28 points in the third quarter to push the lead up to 20 points with one period recontinued to slowly extend the lead the rest of the game. Bailey Olvera scored 17 to lead the Lady Buffaloes in scoring and Jaylin Stapleton added 13 in the loss. The two teams will face each other again in a Hi-Plains League showdown Tuesday night in Meade.
