Ashland steer wrestler Jule Hazen finished second in the fifth performance of the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo and has taken the lead in the average at the halfway point of the event.
Hazen wrestled his steer down in 4.2 seconds Monday night to tie with Luke Branquinho for second place money of $12,921 for his effort.
It is Hazen's third straight money round and is now leading the WNFR event with a time of 22.2 seconds after five rounds. His closest competitor is Dakota Eldridge at 23.4 seconds at the midway point.
Hazen has won $27,344 at the WNFR and has moved up to sixth in the current world championship behind current leader Casey Martin. Hazen's 2013 total is $96,609.63, which is less than $30,000 behind Martin going into Tuesday night's sixth round.
