A much better informed friend (from Arizona) sent the following comments on my post on gun control:
I don't believe in background checks for private transfer between individuals.......if I die, my firearms could not be transferred to my heirs without a cumbersome Federal background check........I don't like that.......if I sell/transfer a firearm(s) to a neighbor......same problem.......I don't like that.......there's a rumor, promoted by the anti-gun crowd that 40% of firearms sales are private.......I don't believe it.......
Full automatic firearms.......in 1986, a Federal law was passed that prohibits the manufacture and/or importation of full automatic firearms, however, there is no Federal law against possessing a full automatic firearm by private citizens........that is a State issue.......many States prohibit the possession of full automatic firearms........Arizona does not.......if I buy a full automatic firearm (they are available for a price) I must register said full automatic firearm with the Feds and pay a $200.00 fee......it's a one time fee......I may not take the firearm out of State without re-registering it.......any movement across a State line requires re-registration.......re-registration requires the payment of the fee again.......
You can do the same thing in both Kansas & Missouri.......
Otherwise........good blog.......
The problems of inheriting guns under registration laws hadn’t occurred to me, and I didn’t know the details on automatic weapons
