  • The Rotary Club of Greensburg recently made their annual distribution of dictionaries to third graders throughout Kiowa County.
Rotary clubs throughout the world participate in The Dictionary Project an annual event to benefit youth and promote literacy.
Third Graders from Kiowa County Elementary School and Haviland Grade School were the recipients of the dictionaries, which are specifically designed for children.
The goal of The Dictionary Project is to assist all students in becoming good writers, active readers, creative thinkers, and resourceful learners by providing them with their own personal dictionary, according to the website www.dictionaryproject.org.  “Watching the third graders dive into the dictionaries once they receive them is an awesome experience. They are so intrigued and want to look everything up all at once,” said Greensburg Rotary President Chad Pore.  “If we can help one kid improve their ability to read then this project is worth every dime.”
Greensburg Rotary has 10-members who volunteer their time and talent to further the Rotary motto, “Service Above Self.”
