The other day I was checking my mail box and it jammed packed of mail.  Once I got the mail free from the tiny little mail box and sorted I discovered that there was an assortment of credit card offers, catalogs, a magazine offer and one piece of “real” mail – the water bill.

There are plenty of reasons I keep receiving direct mail for credit card offers, magazine deals, or random catalogs. Maybe it was that couch I bought a few month ago or that online purchase for Christmas.  Companies want to reach people who are most likely to be interested in what they have to offer. That's why they rent or buy relevant mailing lists to help them find prospective customers—instead of just sending mail at random.  But there’s a way to limit or stop the type of junk mail you get in your mailbox.

DMAchoice allows you to cut back on certain types that you're not interested in. DMAchoice divides direct mail into four categories:

Credit Offers Catalogs Magazine Offers (this includes subscription offers, newsletters, periodicals and other promotional mailings) Other Mail Offers (this includes donation requests, bank offers, retail promotions and more)

For each of these categories, you can choose whether or not you want to receive mail from companies one at a time. Or, if you prefer, you can choose to stop receiving mail for all companies you haven't purchased from or donated to within an entire category. Any choices you make will be effective for five years from the date you make them.

DMAchoice also offers other do not contact services.
