  • Donald L. Worden, age 73, of Dalton, Ohio, was gathered to his Savior on Saturday, Dec. 29, 2012.  Born September 3, 1939, in Alton, KS, to O. Dean and H. June (Dillon) Worden, he grew up in Haviland, KS, home of Barclay College (formerly Friends Bible College), from which he would receive his A.A. in Bible. He received a B.A. with honors in religion in 1962 from Friends University in Wichita, KS. Recorded as a pastor in the Evangelical Friends Church that same year, Don first ministered at Timbercreek Friends Church in Atlanta, KS, and League City (Texas) Friends Church. He later returned to Barclay as an admissions counselor, eventually rising to director of public affairs. Noted for his skills in organizing planned giving, Don would go on to serve in developmental and financial directorship roles in northeastern Ohio with the Eastern Region of the Evangelical Friends Church, The Salvation Army, The Arthritis Foundation, and Canton First Friends Church. Additionally, he served Friends Church Southwest as director of development.  Throughout his life, Don honed his prodigious artistic gifts and was an award-winning wood burning artist who appeared in numerous woodworking publications. He enjoyed golf, playing piano, singing in choirs, table tennis, swimming, and reading.
    He is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, Carolyn (Mendenhall); daughters, Donna Celine (Robert) Neff of Buena Park, CA, Danei Joline (Daniel) Edelen of Mt. Orab, OH, Deana Reline (Dennis) Alexander of Dalton; grandchildren, Dean and Danessa Alexander and Ethan Edelen; brother, Dr. Ronald (Dr. Barbara) Worden; sisters, Betty Ann Everson, Beverly (Richard) Stutzman,  Marcia (Terry) Ash; nieces, nephews, other family and many beloved friends.
    A memorial service was held on Wednesday, January 2, 2013 at 11 a.m. at the Canton First Friends Church, 5455 Market Ave. N, Canton, OH  44714 with Pastors Stan Hinshaw, Phil DiSabinto, and Dr. John Williams, co-officiating.  Memorials in Don’s name may be made to Barclay College, Attn. Donations, 607 N. Kingman, Haviland, KS 67059, Evangelical Friends Mission, P.O. Box 525, Arvada, CO 80001, or Canton First Friends Church.
