Sticking it to the man!

The other day I was checking out and my total came to $1.09. I whipped out my credit card to my Mother�s surprise. �You�re paying a $1.09 purchase with a credit card?� Why, yes I am. I then explained how I �stick it to the man� by paying small purchases with a credit card at national chain stores since it costs more to process the card than the item itself. Most credit card companies charge a fee of 20-50 cents to process a credit card plus a percentage fee of 5% or more of the purchase price. The fees vary depending of the credit card processor but they all have a fee plus percentage. Fees are usually waived if you use your debit card with pin since that acts as an electronic check.

Then I explained that small businesses are exempt from my �stick to the man� rule and that I try to pay cash so they keep more of their profits.
